Artist statement
My name is Roko Shirozu.
I'm a Japanese sculptor my expertise is carving and oil painting with (camphor) wood.
My art is meant to invoke another worldly whimsy by Mixing man with beast. To tell a story from beyond our world.
In Japan there are spirits dwelling in all things.
In recent years this Japanese sensibility is being lost…
But I've come to appreciate these ideals because I love all living things.
We can't live without them.
I want to express, through my work, the living world around me as equals.
